Formerly operating as Eastern Province Aquatics or EP Aquatics, the Federation was established in the early 1900's to govern and promote aquatic sports in the western half of the Eastern Cape.
Early 2014 saw the Federation falling in line with government's regional demarcations and the Federation now continues its work as one of nine Federations in the Eastern Cape, operating under the new name of Nelson Mandela Bay Aquatics (NMBA).
NMBA governs aquatic sports in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropole and promotes the practise of all aquatic disciplines with the purpose of providing healthy exercise, recreation and reducing the frequency of drowning tragedies.
This latter goal is a core focus area and is achieved through a programme called Learn to Swim. Not only is the goal to prevent drownings in our region, but also to allow children the opportunity to take part in competition.
The Federation assists to develop local talent of all disciplines to reach the highest levels of competition available and NMBA provides numerous platforms for athletes to compete from National to International events.
